'Il Cadillac degli ostelli di Sidney', Lonely Planet 2006
L'unico ostello di 5 stelle nella città, Sydney Central YHA si trova di fronte alla stazione centrale in un edificio bellissimo di patrimonio mondiale.
L'ostello vanta di una piscina e sauna sul tetto, con terrazza soleggiata e visto panoramico di tutta la città.
A disposizione degli ospiti sono anche: 2 cucine grandi e ben attrezzate, sala da pranzo, lavanderie, cinema, tavolo da billiardo, sale di T.V., internet, armadietti in stanza, zona di parcheggio, stanze di riunione, agenzia di viaggio, caffè, mini-supermercato, e uno dei bar piu popolari di tutta Sydney, il Scubar. Insomma, tutto quello che uno potrebbe augurarsi! E per questo che abbiamo vinto il premio 'Migliore Ostello di Sydney del decennio'.
Ci sono anche molte attività organizzate dall'ostello, compreso l'assistere ad eventi sportivi, escursioni al cinema, ai bars e ai mercati, e anche grigliate sul tetto ogni lunedì.

I find it hard to say anything negative about this YHA but am giving it one star less than Wake Up around the corner on 'Overall' (same for the rest). The only reason I can think of is the atmosphere is a tad stale, something echoed by other reviews here. It's also a great hostel for a slightly older crowd (ie. 30+). The last time I stayed here was with my (then) 7 month old daughter and wife in a dorm room which we got to ourselves. They were able to provide a cot with no problems. A 4 star hotel in Singapore had more problems with that!
It's about the same price as Wake Up which puts it in the highest scale in Sydney, but considering location and quality I think that's logical. It's also nearly always full it seems, even though it has over 500 beds!
It has a pool, but not a bar (the reason I'm only giving it 4 stars on Facilities), although there's one about 3 steps from the front door and it's nearly always packed with YHA guests.
I've stayed here twice and would happily stay here again.

Yeah it's clean. Yeah it's roomy. Yeah it's safe. But damn is it boring. It's more of a cheap hotel. You'll have a hard time meeting people here. Stay here if you need to catch up on sleep or just need some time to yourself.

One of the "flagship" YHAs, you get absolutely top-notch facilities (never seen better), but have to suffer a rather marked lack of atmosphere. Its location across the street from Central Station makes it the perfect place to stay if you arrive late or have to leave early (WakeUp! is located next door and thus has an equally good location, while the Railway Square YHA is actually located across the street "inside" central station, so would be even better).
It's a rather expensive hostel though, so together with the lack of atmosphere, I recommend heading out from here again after a day or two.

Plane: 10 km to airport. Take a private shuttle bus to our door or catch a train from the airport direct to Central Station.
